The journey is the destination... 8-)
but the destination is only the motivator for the journey which might give you an experience you haven't had yet.

BTDT, crossing Germany is BORING the crap outta you, thrust me... :|
A working alternative would be the Rhein-Mosel valley though... but northbound beyond that towards and though the Netherlands its again flat, mostly industrial areas, heavy traffic...
And from a financial POV (fuel, accommodations, tolls, food, tire wear,...) that night train makes lots of sense...
Back home the long way then, Dover-Calais, maybe Portsmouth-Le Havre again, stop by in Paris to visit a good friend there (acknowledging his newly obtained NC750X after he got run over on his ST1300 in a roundabout -> totalled...), lots to tinker...
Keep tires down, ATGATT, STOC# 637 (Sept.'97), PanEuro# 42 (Oct.'97), candy glory red '92 (sold), re-furbed '94 (wicked), strawberry '00 (daily)

Lucky you have the options available unlike here where you either have to fly or ride/drive especially between the 2700km Adelaide and Perth trip https://goo.gl/maps/FqE3ftwk1Yr.

Yes, the vast distances in your corner of the world are considerable...
Europe is more of a village...

And yes, I'm actually struggling with Tapatalk here... what a PITA!

Could do a North Wales weekend, then an Ireland pre or post SToc. We did an Ireland tour a few years ago after the BritSToc in Scotland. We travelled back Troon to Fishguard. The weather wasn't great. It was also not long enough.

IIRC are West & Southwest the most charming, but don't know about lodging for entire groups there...
